Text Box: You will notice many new faces at Andy Reunion 2009.  At the last reunion a proposal was made, and accepted, to open future reunions to all hands who have ever served aboard the Andy.  We have received numerous requests for reunion info from these former crew members, some of which served aboard the Andy as early as 1948.
USCG Commandant Admiral Thad Allen has said that he wants to attend our reunion, and has placed it on his schedule. Therefore, barring  some emergency, he will attend the reunion and be our Keynote Speaker.  Some of you may not be aware that then-Ensign Thad Allen served aboard the Andy during the early 1970’s.   When asked  later in his career about his most memorable leadership experience, the Commandant replied “Being trapped in the radio room of my first ship (USCGC Androscoggin) with four other people during a fire in the Yard and surviving.  My roommate and I tore away the insulation on the bulkhead and beat SOS with the emergency destruction ax and someone on the dock heard us.”  (Source: USCGA web site)
