 Crystal River

Crystal River is a fresh water river with a year round temperature of 72 degrees. Located in the middle of the Nature coast on the West Coast of Florida, it is about 80 miles from Tampa, Orlando and Gainesville, all major airports within easy driving distance to all central Florida attractions.

Crystal River is winter home of the West Indian Manatee. The warm spring waters attract the manatees from October to March. The manatee is a large brownish-gray aquatic mammal. It is an endangered species, and protected by state and federal law. With an average population of around 200, Crystal River is winter home to the largest concentration of West Indian manatees in the world. If you would like more information on manatees, the State of Florida Bureau of Protected Species Management is an excellent source.
